I've just discovered a large amount of juvenile Convicts in my tank. And having just done further reading into the species, have now explained a few things.

The strange growths on the bogwood I had considered could be eggs but when I went to check properly had gone because they hatch within 72hrs.

The now shredded tail of my 3rd convict, explained by the protective parents.

Can't believe this as I'm not exactly the most orthodox of aquarists (I know what every1s thinking), and I seemingly had less success with shrimp (which need little interference).

Any advice to there care? I've seen how easy they breed, as well as the protective instincts of the parents

Parents only protect them for a short time. Then they are on their own. Not especially easy to sell because they do breed so easily, fish stores usually won't take them.

I feed my convict fry hikari first bites. As much as I love them I know i would need to give them away for free.
