just curious to know...would 2 different types of fish mate?

I have a male guppy getting really close to a female platty...would they mate?
Just want to know
Thnx in advance :?

I don't believe they can mate, but I'm not a doctor

that would be like trying to get a fox and a dog to mate ... they are both similar, but not both canine

Different species can mate together, but they don't produce viable offspring. Rarely you can get a crossbreed like a mule, so keep us posted.

Yep--it can certainly happen (e.g. horses and donkeys mate and have mules, which cannot mate). My LFS has a guppy/platy, so the combination is certainly possible!!! It is essentially a platy with a longer, guppy tail!

So, the answer is certainly yes. Don't know what the eugenicists would think of this though!!!
