options
With the recent death of my female GBR that I was attempting to get to spawn, I'm looking ofr options for my 10g tank. Right now the only thing in there is the male GBR and some snails. However, I have 3 young ABN pleco's in my 29g. I'm contemplating moving the 3 ABN pleco's in and seeing if they'll spawn. How does this sound to you? Does the GBR need to be moved out?
Its either this, or leave the tank with just the male GBR until I can get my hands on some more females. Thanks, Mike |

This is semi-off topic, but I know you'll be able to answer it.
Just what is a GBR? I've heard so much talk about them but can't figure out what they are! You may want to give your plecos a shot, and if they don't spawn they don't spawn, but if they do it would have been fish you already had and a cool lesson. Also, you may be able to give/sell them to people. |

GBR = German Blue Ram, a very pretty little fish
Black hills, I don't know what you've got in your 29 gallon, but would it be possible for the plecos to spawn in there? 10 gallons can be a bit hard on spawning fish. There isn't much room for territories and it takes a bit more care to keep the quality of the water needed for spawning. And, especially with the GBRs, I found the less I touched the tank (cleaning), moved them around, etc... the happier they were = more spawning attempts. So, I just left them in my 55 gallon tank. Each time they spawned the eggs lasted longer, and finally hatched into fry on the last attempt. I think I messed things up because when I saw fry, I kind of freaked and put in a divider right away to protect them. Well, the divider upset the parents and just after that they began eating their fry. |

I'm not saying its impossible in the 29g tank. However, I do have a medium sized angel that would enjoy the treat. I suppose if all else fails, if they spawn I could remove the eggs or the fry right after dad lets them out of the cave and move them to the 10g.
The more I think about it, I purchased the ABN's in July. They are probably only 10 months old. Looks like I'll be waiting another 5 at least before they'll be old enough to spawn. |

It'll be difficult to have either spawn while in the same tank. Both are opportunistic gravel feeders and with clutches of eggs at their disposal, they will simply get a nice protein packed diet.
I'd wait it out and get a mate for your single GBR.
