Seperating fry in same tank...
I have a 30 gallon tank with mainly guppies. I have kept some of the guppy fry from these fish. They are beginning to outgrow the plastic breeder tank I put them in, so I am trying to separate the tank for the fry. I purchased one of the tank separator kits, but I am having a tough time making the two side channels sit flush against the side of the tank. I think there is enough room for the fry to swim about between the side channel and the glass. Has anyone used one of these successfully, or can anyone offer any suggestions? Also, how large should the fry be before being let out in the main tank? Thanks a lot.

I've never used a tank divider so I cant help you there. Most of the time if the guppies are 2-3 weeks old they should be safe. Just provide hiding spots for them (rocks, plants, decorations)

I have had the same thing happen when i put a divider in my tank, so I ended up putting in diagonally and pushing the edges firmly against the sides of the tank. You can also pile some of the rocks around the divider to discourage them from trying to get through, and barry the bottom in the rocks as well.
I also agree with Simpte that after they are a couple weeks old, or big enough that they pretty much can't fit into the adult's mouthes, they should be pretty much OK. They will want to hide in plants, rocks, etc. so having something like Hornworts or even Wisterias would be good. |

Thanks for the advice. These fry are about 2 months old, but only about 1/2" in length. I will try the diagonal idea though, didn't think of that.
