Hi all, was certain my female swordtail was pregnant but her bulge seems to have went down significantly, but no sign of any fry unfortunately.

Can anyone tell me approximately what size the new born fry are? My tank has several plants which the fry may be hiding in but fear they may have been eaten, I have 2 blue dwarf gourami, a male & female black swordtail, a male & female gold comet swordtail, 6 threadfin rainbows, 6 cardinals, 3 young mollies, 2 ancistrus & a rusty plec.

Don't have space for a breeder tank & have heard that breeding nets cause the female a lot of stress so are there any suggestions to successfully breed the swordtails?

Many thanks,

Craig

If it fits in the mouth it may have been eaten! Those guys pop out bite sized but they hide really well.

Most of your fish have fry size mouths!

Probably newborn at 1/4in long but they are tiny!

Thanks Autumnsky, have just seen 2 fry after sitting studying the tank, may well be more, really pleased.
