Unidentified Fry
Well, my livebearer tank just saw its first drop. Its only been going for about a week, so I must have brought home some pregnant females. Not surprising, they were keeping them all co-ed.
http://onefish.kicks-***.org/~sean/g...e+034.jpg.html Not sure which it is, as I have guppies, platys and mollies all in the same tank. This is a picture of one that I could get to sit still long enough for a shot. I don't have a seperate grow-up tank, so I'd imagine most of the fry will end up fish food, but in my last tank of platies, one or two always seemed to hide long enough to not be food sized. |

hard to tell, but it looks like a guppy to me.
Congrats!

I've spotted a total of around 6 surviving fry at this point. They've got a slight orangy color, making me believe that one of the Molly's dropped. I've turned off one of the Aquaclear 30s just so they don't get sucked up the tube.

If you want a high success rate, i'd go and pick up a "net" breeder. They're around 5 bucks. They hang on the side of your tank.

Then I'd need another tank, too. There'd be no point in putting the mother in the net breeder, since there's 9 other adults in the tank.

I put the mom in the small netted area JUSt before she births. When she drops, take her out and put her in the rest of the tank. If another mother gives birth, shes outta luck, because she'd eat the other babies. Only one mother at a time. I gave birth to 32 guppies in a 10 gallon with 7 full grown guppies in the tank. 17 made it to adulthood.
