What do you do with your grown up fry?

As a future plan I'd like to get some cool discus and let them spawn. I think it would be cool to have a bunch of baby fish -- I'm enchanted with the pics of the parent discus and all the fry hovering around 'em. I'd have a grow-out tank and such.

Then I got to thinking... what would I do with the fry once they grew up? How many fry would there be? Would I be able to find homes for 'em all? I'm not planning on turning into a big time discus breeder. I just want to be an occasional hobby breeder. Would the fish graciously not breed if I didn't have the space or time for the new babies? I imagine the [acronym:a0917ac3a0="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:a0917ac3a0] would take a few but not the whole brood.

What do you do with your grown up fry? How many survive to adulthood? I assume you can't keep ALL of them all the time.

Thanks in advance

I breed fish as part of the hobby, not discus yet though . But With my fry I sell them to my local store and in return I get store credit or just simply swap them for items such as food or decor. But If your local store dont purchase them off you , you can just put an add ina local paper and people may come and buy them off. I am after really really young discus atm, but cant find any where I live lol.

I'm kind of chuckling a bit coolchinchilla . I've been trying to get discus fry past the few week stage with little success. I know it has everything to do with the water. It takes alot of work, alot of room and more $$ than I can spend right now.

If you were fortunate enough to be able to raise discus fry to about an inch and half in diameter, I'm sure you'd have no trouble getting rid of them.

Myself, I barely have enough places to keep a few fish so they are off to the pet store when they are big enough to sell. I might keep a couple, but that's it. I don't want to overwhelm my little filters in those ten gallon tanks.

I have marigold swordtails, and they are dropping babies like crazy. They had 36 in the first bunch, then when they got to be about four weeks old, they had a bunch more. I moved the first bunch into another tank because I realize that the tank can only support so many fish before the pumps and filters get overwhelmed. In two weeks, the first bunch are off to the pet store. They are already over 1/2 inch long, and they keep getting bigger each week.
