While watching our fish today, my son discovered that we have some baby platies. I am new to all of this and don't really know how to tell the difference between the male and female fish. So, I am wondering if anyone has any speculation on who is the parents of my cute new little fry. In the tank I have: swordtail, red & black platy, 2 sunburst platies and 3 neon tetras. The new babies are red and black platies, so I am assuming that one of the parents would be the red and black platy (keen eye for the obvious here). But, being ignorant as I am , I have no idea if that one is the mom or dad and who the other party is involved. Any thoughts? :n00b:

Thank you! That was very helpful. Now - off to the tank for some investigative work!

Looks like I have two options for the father - the swordtail or one of the sunburst platies. I guess time will tell.
