emoticons

I notice there's more emoticons than are listed under "all." Can we get an updated list?

Hmm.

All the ones that are available from the site are on the "all' page. Many members use emotes from other sites or from their own personal stash.

Not to sound like an idiot, but how do I do that?

Try a google search for emoticons. You should turn up many webpages that offer you different emoticons for free to either download and keep on a personal webspace or to link directly from their site.

Now, On the subject of linking directly from other websites. If your not fimular webmasters pay for their webspace based upon the amount of diskspace and bandwidth used. "Hotlinking" (linking from another site) is often frouned upon unless its specificly mentioned that its ok from the website. The reason is that each hotlinked image in effect utilizes some bandwidth from the websites account.
Its one thing for a site to use bandwidth for a visitor of the site and its another to have bandwidth used by a non visitor because a graphic they use is hotlinked.

If you have a site that allows linking to their emoticons or you have emoticons on your own webspace you can use the tags with the URL to the graphic in between.

Kevin might be able to give you some URL's to some sites he has used or gotten emotes from.

Try
http://bestsmileys.com/
http://emoticons4u.com/
http://www.mysmilies.com/

all allow and encourage hot linking, be warned there are some pretty sick smilies out there, don't be offended if you see them and don't use them here
