Those are avatars. Go into your profile, you can add it.

this is going to be a dumb question but where is the profile button on the default skin?

Go the the Homepage. On the right hand side it will say "Update your Profile."

In addition the avatar gallery is broken at this point. You will need to upload your own image making sure you stay within the file size and image size limits.
