trying a 10g planted (updated 1/6/07) - Aquarium Advice

Some of you have probably seen me hanging around the forums for the past month or so. After seeing all of your great tanks I decided to give the planted tank a go. I have converted my 10g QT, and this is were I am at now.

Could someone help me identify the plant in the second picture?

Looks like most of my Amazon Swords, but I couldn't say for sure... Perhaps Echinodorus bleheri: http://www.plantgeek.net/plant-89.htm

BTW, you can link these images straight in your post using the brackets (I am using curly brackets to illustrate), like this:

just replace the { with [ and bingo.

You might want to replace the swords with a similar leaved Crypt (like becketti) or Anubias sp (like afzelli). They will still outgrow your tank but at least they'll buy time compared to the sword.

The tank is off to a good start. That sword could be many different ones. I could see it being an Amazon, Compacta, or even a chain sword (Echinodorus quadricostatus). Time will tell.

If I can keep them alive I will end up transfering them to my 30 or 55g tank, when the out grow the small tank.

Well, I thought I would update this thread a little. I will be moving the sword's to the 30 gal tank tomorrow during maintenance. Have gone through a little bit of algae problem, thankfully not to bad. Now have 40watts of light over it and started dosing ferts a while back. It has been long enough for me to decide to go with Greg Watson dry ferts, they should be here any day.

I always seem to take pictures right after I feed, It does not normally look this dirty>

Looks very nice drobertson.

Now that you have mastered the "can I grow plants" part of the hobby, it's time to add species that will not grow as fast and will not get as big. This is the fun part of the hobby!
