My tank is a 40 gallon with a in hood filter and a small internal filter, sorry I don't know the specifics. I also have about 40 lbs of live rock and 40 lbs of live sand. My tank is also cycling but it is nearing its end I think. I do not want a lot of fish but probably about 3-4 fish with 1-2 shrimp and some soft corals. Is it possible for me to just have a hang on back skimmer and have an okay tank?

im sorry for pming such a long question its just I saw your post and you seem to have the answers I have been looking for such as if I need a sump or not and how good hob skimmers actually are, because I have heard negative reviews. Thank you any help would be amazing!

Hi :3 you don't know me but I saw your recommendations for the bubble magus and I was wondering if you could help

I am in a predicament of whether I need to purchase a sump or not because the cost of my tank is getting quite high. I always planned on purchasing a skimmer but the sump now is looking at $150 which I am hoping to get in the future but not right now.

I was wondering if you could tell me if I could run a fishtank with just the skimmer, or any suggestions you might have because it is my first tank too.
