I believe they do much better in established tanks. The are filter feeders and so if your tank is heavily skimmed it will probably need supplemental feeding every once and a while for optimal health. Marine snow or similar sized food if i remember right. Can be a bit tricky for inexperienced hobbyists (not saying anything about you i don't know) If they get stressed they will evacuate their tubes and then the chances are slim of them surviving to make another tube. The also shed their crown every couple of months and grow a new one so don't get freaked out if you get one and it just pops off one day.

ha ha ok.... so when you mean more established tanks what exactly does that mean.... like ive had mine since maybe mid or end august

They are easy to maintain. And as mentioned above they are filter feeders.

do they need bigger tanks for more stuff to feed on? like could they work in a 14 gallon bio cube....

Depends on what else you have in your tank. I've had mine for about a year now and I feed it "Micro-vert" by Kent marine. It is also the Host for my Clarkii Clownfish.

i have a damsel a fire shrimp and a selection of corals (look at my signature) would it be ok with those?

I would be very careful adding stuff like microvert or plankton to a tank that small. it would not take much to cause your water to foul up.

oh so for a feather duster i would have to add plankton?

Like melosu58 said a little goes a long way. What are you feeding your coral now?
