Welcome to AA!

That looks like a DIY filtration system. These were very popular some years ago (some folks still swear by them...less costly than the filters available). The good thing about this one is it does have the 3 stages of filtration.

If you are familiar with the setup, by all means use it. If not, there is plenty of DIY information available to set it up again (hoses and clamps, etc.).

If you decide you don't want it...finding a buyer may not be difficult. AA has a classifieds section to place an add.

baisically what JC was saying is that you have a sump for your tank

i think they work great IMO so i say keep it

No it is NOT a sump.
It is a DIY filtration system, and looks like a very decent one at that. If you want more info on how it works, I'm sure you'll find it in the DIY section. I would definetly use it if I were you. I have one in my 28.5 gallon and it works fine for me, plenty of space for filter material. I use an aditional sponge filter and never had any troubles with water parameters.

sure looks like a DIY sump

Would be nice if words I didn't say weren't put in my mouth. I said it's a DIY filter. Also said it was worth keeping if interested. Also said there was info on it if needed.

Nuff said.

My tank came with a very similar filter set up to the one pictured, but built into the tank. It seems to work great so far although still not for sure I have it set up right. But it is filtering fine and has the capicity for alot of various filter medial resulting in an enormous square footage for bacteria growth.

would a filter system like this sell and if so how much could be expected....kinda dirty but in good shape no cracks or anything..thanks for all the help

I think you could sell it fine - you could post it in the Classifieds section.

I would really consider using it, though, as it is a method of filtration that offers a lot of flexibilty, when it has been well constructed. It looks good to me.

FWIW, some people call them DIY sump filters. Here is a nifty one that is much more involved:
