Morish Idol

any one know any thing about morish idol? i heard they are nearly impossible to keep in the marine aquarium. can u tell me why?

one of the reasons is because no one is really sure what it is they require for their basic nutrition and how we can provide it. They are also a rather social fish and some studies believe they dont do well in aquariums because we usually buy them singly instead of in groups.

I agree...I would so love to have a tank large enough for a nice school of them. www.oregonreef.com this guy has several in his tank but it is 850g....he seems to have success with them.

Ziggy, those in that tank are Bannerfishes, slightly different than the Moorish Idol, although they look the same. :)

Correct. they are a heniochus sp., commonly called the "poor man's morish idol". The true version has a very dismal survival record in captivity for the reasons mentioned above. They are absoultly gorgous fish but best left to the ocean. (dang you Finding Nemo!..shakes fist at the stupid movie)

Right right right...I knew that...I was in a hurry when I posted that right before leaving to go to work.....
