At that size there would be no physical way to tell if it was a male or female short of venting it and even then that would be a bit of a long shot. These are what Meeki around that size would look...

75 gallon is to small of any of the Hap species IMO/E. Also there is no singular Latin name, there's at least 26 different genera of Cichlidae that fall under the common moniker of "Haps".

You'll have to do water changes, and unless you're going to have a 55 gallon + container that will also be filtered with peat you have PH swings still. Buy a RO/DI unit or get fish that will work...
