WD- American's aren't the only ones that idolize celebrities. Every nation in the world does. It is a break from the reality of our lives to talk about celebrities. Some people look up to celebrities as role models. Others view musicians as life savers because of a song that they wrote. What does it matter? Billy Mays is a national celebrity who happened to die. People "knew" him because he was in the limelight. The difference between the people you mentioned and Billy Mays is that Billy was known by millions of people. Can't fault people for knowing who he is.
