Anything? My friend gave me one for free and now I want a betta. But I don't know if they are even suitable for bettas (the bowl) It is a larger bowl, probably 1 or 2 gallons.

I really want a betta now :/ But probably won't work, so what, if anything, can I do with this bowl? Plant some flowers in it? Lol

you could probably keep a betta in the bowl, just make sure you clean it well, and it may need a very small filter or may not. i havent owned a betta in a bowl that large so im not 100% sure.

Well if I were to do this I would make sure to have some sort of filtration. That is important. I just dont think it will be enough room for the little guy

Well, odds are the betta with end up with its own 55 gallon with a similarly sized castle in the middle :p

In this case, a round ugf might work out nicely. Otherwise I think it'd be hard to filter.

i have kept bettas in very very small bowls without filtration atal and lived a while. i think it will be enough room for the fellow?

I dont think it is. I have a dwarf puffer in a 10 gallon lol. I could always cycle the bowl and keep him in there til I get another5 or 10, which probably wont be long... but you think he will be ok for a couple months in a bowl? Keep in mind this is if I cycle it and get some sort of filter first.

yes he should be fine. if he shows any sines of odd behavior, you shouls grab him a larger tank fast. but like i siad, i havent had experience with bettas that were kept in tanks rather than bowls lol

doesn't he need room to swim though? to explore, I feel like I would be cramming him into a tiny room. Like if someone crammed me in a tiny room.. IdK I am going to do some research on it

ok good idea, and no, bettas dont need room to swim very much at al, form whjat i heard. they have them in the little plantic "cups" at the pet store, and they are fine so idk, do some research and get back to me i am curius.

There is a difference between living and thriving. Goldfish can live in cups for awhile too...

2 gallons is decent, but the footprint is kind of small for the amount of water.

Yeah I think if I put him in that bowl he is going to end up in a 5 at least. I'll just have to wait and see what I do. :D

You know... my 5 is established already....

why can't you just put one in a 5 instead of bowl then 5? Also, with just a desk lamp you could turn that betta bowl into a nice planted tank lol ;)

if you don't feel comfortable keeping a betta in it then don't. people underestimate bettas. if you give them the room, they will utilize it. granted not a gigantic tank but i have mine in a 5 g. i used to have a betta in a 1/2 g, and now i feel REALLY guilty about it.
if the bowl sparked your passion for a betta, but you're not okay with the bowl as his habitat, just stick it out until you can give him a bigger tank. it'll be worth it, making him happy. plus you'll have plenty of time to decide what color and type you want. :)

Remember, that you don't always have to expand outward... You can also expand upwards!!! lol. People say they don't have space, but I say "are your tanks touching the ceiling?" lol. This only applied to small tanks btw

If you have a puffer use the 2 gal for a snail grow tank. Put some plants in it, some cucumber and a bunch of snails, set it in the window and kaboom

I have my snails in the 5g at the moment. It is also my QT tanks since there is a billion snails in the 29 as well. I actually plan on tearing down the 5 and making it a trio of sparkling gouramis. I was thinking of putting a betta in there but I just don't want another solitary tank. I made that mistake with my puffer, and even though I love him I wish I could put something else in with him.

Since I got the bowl for free I figured I would see what I could do with it. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
