Marineland Heater Alert- Stealth and Stealth Pro's Recalled

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an interest in aquariums or fish keeping!
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
The point of my posting it was because the lady said she heard the employees talking about the recall, that's all. ;)

I have to link where I found the quote.

I understand... I was only teasing. ;)

That seems to be the only fish forum that makes McAfee go crazy and I make it a point to hover over links and look in the lower left to make sure it isn't the bad fishlore site before I click it. Or else this happens...

LOL, yeah I understood what you mean, hence the wink, but I am not getting in trouble for copyrighting. :D

My Norton HATES Myspace, good thing I do too!

Funny, I hate MySpace because I can hate MySpace. :p

Getting back on track... regarding what that lady posted about overhearing employees talking about the recall. I wasn't there, (obviously), but for all she knows they were probably talking about all the morons showing up wanting an exchange and she just heard a little bit of their conversation. Just sayin'...

Edit: Oh and I wasn't rolling my eyes at you. :D I just think the lady who posted that could have gone into more detail about the conversation she overheard.

So nobody has the actual email from PetSmart?
I would want to check the email header to make sure it actually came from PetSmart. This sounds like it could be the start of another Internet product smear. It doesn't make sense that only one retailer would have sent that notice, and the company website has no mention of it.

Let's wait till tomorrow when we can get the official story. Theere is no one around to answer the phone today.

I saw the same email about 2-3 months ago. It's because there have been a few cases where the heater exploded, because there were air pockets in the material used to make the heater. I've emailed Marineland twice regarding this 'recall' and both times, they have said there was no recall, no known issues, or any cause for concern. The fact that Marineland does not have this on their website, and its not on any consumer safety websites, tells me that this is a fabricated story, maybe an attempt to get back at Marineland for something they did not do for a customer. Until I get an email or letter from Marineland (because I filled out my warranty info), I'm not paying attention to any of this.

The US Consumer Products Safety Commission (federal agency in charge of recalls) does not list this product as recalled.

Regardless of whether or not there's an official recall, the new and "improved" Stealth's are hunks of junk. Mine failed after about a month, and I know of others in the same boat. I don't personally know of anyone's that has exploded, but I think that's only because most folks yank a heater when it starts not working too well.

Granted... you have a lifetime warranty and you get a new one, but it's not going into any tank I own. The VisiTherms used to be the heater to beat, but since Marineland got bought a couple years back and the new parent company started "improving" everything, all their stuff has gone to pot.

Well petsmart is replacing the heaters. I went there with just one of my heaters thinking it was fake. But what do you know they replaced now i have to go replace my other one

Here's the other thread you were looking for about this issue. I'm going to lock that one and link here since this is a more appropriate forum for this discussion.

Also going to say I've been running one of these for about 4 months now with no issues, but now I'm nervous.

If you google it, you can find pics on another forum of one that exploded and cracked the fish tank when it did.

It's about time they recalled this junk. Sure took long enough.

And FWIW, I'm friends in real life with that poster from Fishlore. She is registered on this site as well. This is not an internet product smear.

I found RUMOURS of a stealth recall on other forums going back as far as Feb. of last year...

IMO they should all be recalled. I have had 2 250's. The end cap on top came off of both of them, after about 6 months, blew my main breaker and nearly destroyed my tank.

I went to PetSmart today, specifically asked if they were taking the recalls, and they said yes.

So... it's official. Thanks for posting! (y)

I was going to check w/ my Petco to see about the recall today, but ended up w/ a bad cold and couldn't convince myself to go anywhere, (or even pick up a phone... I was lazy. lol). :(

If Petsmart is accepting returns due to the recall, then I would think that Petco would do the same. I'll check w/ mine tomorrow, (since I have to go to work anyway), and I'll post what they say.

heater replacement

Folks,
I also have a new Marineland 50w heater I just put in tank a week ago! Person at Petsmart said they will accept return for store credit.
Question--I see folks recommend the Eheim -Jager heaters. What model is the fully submersible one? I see folks using the term EBO, I also see they have a new "TS" version. I also see at another local place fish store on the Jager heaters a "sticker" placed on outside of boxes "fully submersible" UL approved" ---the sticker seems like they updated old stock with an updated sticker.
Is "EBO" just a part of the company name? Eheim Ebo-Jager heaters? Is "TS" the model I want?
Thanks
