Ok need some advice or constructive critic. I have a 60 gl cube with a sump and sponge filter. It is decorated with granite rocks made into caves supported by bent plexiglass. I also have a plastic castle and a broad leaf live plant. I stocked it with;
MPIMBWE frontosa-5 about 1.5 to 2 inch
Clown loach-4 about 1to 2 inch
Flowerhorn- 2 about 2 inch
Parrot-1 about 2 inch
Electric yellow- 1 about 2 inch
And this blue striped African cichlids

Will we be ok and for how long? So far they all eat well and the tank is peaceful. The ph is around 7.8 the water is hard. But other levels have been safe now for three weeks the fish have been together for close to that. So what you think.

I don't even know where to start, you've got a bunch of imcompatable fish starting with three different fish from different lakes. First mixing Frontosa and aggressive mbuna is a issue, south/central Americans have no business with africans due to aggression issues(especially the flowerhorn which will kill everything in that tank) and the parrot. The Fonts are to large, the flowerhorns need a 75g each not combined, the loaches will outgrow the tank, a parrot needs 55g by itself. I'm sure there's more but I'm in a hurry right now, rehome almost everything and start over.

Flowerhorn and parrot will eventually go, but to a 60. As far as the loaches and frontosa they should be ok for awhile, right? They have all been ok for three weeks.

I agree with Hukit. Don't look at it as what is ok now, look into the species and see what their mature size is as well as what region ( lake) and compatible tank mates may or may not be. The only two I see that are ok is the lake Malawi ( the ele yellow and blue stripped johanni ).

no he is saying he is busy but that is the issues that he can think of off the top of his head

Will the frontosas be ok with the loaches? Would frontosa be ok with tropreus dubosii?

What is the footprint of the tank? Clown loaches are slow growers but can grow to over a foot. He looks small now but in a few years you will have to upgrade your tank or rehome him.

Not for very long and nothing will thrive. Hukit has it covered very well. The LFS that sold you all of these fish would be one who's motives I'd seriously question before returning.

So what your saying is that your too busy right now to give your honest opinion.

I don't mean to speak for Hukit, but what I think he's saying is there are problems with your tank and he can't address them all at this time.

Hukit is one of the most knowledgeable persons on this forum in regards to cichlids, so I wouldn't be questioning his judgement when he tells you certain fish aren't compatible.

However that is one of the purposes of this forum to learn from your mistakes :)

Will fronts be ok with tropheus dubosii?

Hey thanks what is the growth rate of frontosa and loaches

Hukit helped with a bunch of questions from me and got my tank up and running, healthy for my fish and enjoyable because they are not gonna start killing each other and they will be able to reach adulthood in the paramaters they are in now.
there are alot of wise folks on here HN1 being one of them, so ya might wanna listen, its up to you of course. Good luck with your set up.

Hukit and HN1 are very experienced especially with cichlids, so take every word they say, they mean it and it is probably the best advice you'll get.

I agree. That flowerhorn needs to be moved before it kills all those fish, it is highly agressive. The Malawis seem to be the only ones that are going to be fine in that tank. Clown loaches also get massive. Did you buy all these fish yourself or did your fish store reccomend them to you? I would understand if it was a chain store but if it is a family-owned or privately-owned or independent store, I am seriously questioning how much they care about the fish.

Oh the irony in this thread. Let's try to keep it on the subject at hand. I do agree with HUKIT that things will get ugly at some point in the near future. The tank size is going to be a big limiting factor, since it's a cube. Most, if not all, of the fish mentioned will need a longer tank.

Hey thanks what is the growth rate of frontosa and loaches

Expect 4 to 6 inches on the Fronts in about 1 year. This depends on water quality and feedings. loaches are somewhat slow as well. But to house the Fronts and loaches alone I would do a 150 gallon with a 72" length and 18" depth, height is not critical. 60 gallons would be a 6 month grow out tank assuming they survive with the other fish. Front behavior is shy, and non aggressive feedings. Everything else in that tank is the opposite

How big are the Flowerhorns right now? It's my bet they kill first. I put my 9" Arowana in with my 2" FH for a while when I did rearranging in another tank, and had to do a divider. The FH started hitting the Aro within 5 minutes.

As far as Hukit is concerned; I have been keeping fish for over 15 years now and I learn stuff from him.
