I had two gbr a couple months back. They both died. They did not lime my tank and all one did was chase the other they are territorial. I have one Bolivian now and he's doing great.

I have German blue rams and my ph is stable at 7.8 :) I think it depends on the fish and what parameters the tank is where they're bred/kept before purchase. I've heard some prefer higher ph and some lower. I do know from my experience with mine they do like the higher temperatures. With the bolivians I've heard that they are hardier than the gbrs because there is less in breeding with the bolivians? Keep us posted as to which ones you choose? Good luck!

I haven't heard of bolivians being harder to keep, but I do know that they're hard to sex...

Not harder, hardier stronger more resistant to infections/disease.

IME they havent been territorial, most say only when breeding is when they get really aggressive

I will get you a good pic soon Gboy.

My bolivian is a FEMALE and got mistaken for a MALE GERMAN BLUE RAM. She has that GBR blue on her mouth and GBR blue specs along her gondopodium/thing/fin. She is very beautiful. I wonder if she is a cross, LOL.

Go with the Bolivian. GBRs are IMO harder to keep. The ram is probably my hardiest fish and that is comparing with bettas and platys.

You won't be dissapointed.

Wow i love smurfie, and the others are stunning as well!

Looks like you have a gold, gold/ german mix, and german blue

No bolivians though?:(:(

I have kept german blue rams in a ph of 7.5 and they had amazing colour and where very active. More active then one in a tank with a ph of 7. Personally fish can normally adapt to ph. As long as it is stable. Look at discus fish. See what they are kept in the tank at your lfs. You could drip acclimate it.

No sadly, not yet. I was in the process of adding new fish slowly when I was interrupted by the lesson of why to keep a quarantine tank. A batch of tetras brought on ich, which put a halt to my stocking plan. :-(

Also personally I believe German blue rams have way more colour then Bolivian rams do. All the blue that comes out of the body and every fin. Also they tend to have more solid black stripes running vertically down their sides. I wish I never deleted my photos...
