Hey people, glad to be back on AA!

So, I have a 15G rimless tank, that I got for $15 at my LFS Yearly sale. I had it in my closet for a while. I was thinking about doing a high tech Dutch style tank for a while. Then, about 1 week ago, I went to a LFS that I've never been to before because I heard they sell shrimp. After rushing over there to see the shrimp, I walk to the back of the store and see a small bonsai tree sitting in a 20G. I instantly think of a mountain scape, with a moss tree. After talking to the manager for a little while, I asked him about the tree and he said that they got in in that week, shipped from Vietnam. I couldn't hold my self back, I immediately bought the tree after wandering around the store. I soon brought it home to my 15G that I now have on my shelf. It fit perfectly! So, can you guess what my next project is?!

I need a few opinions on the Tech going on to the tank, as well as the flora.

Filtration: ?? I know I want a canister filter for sure, but I have no idea what to look for? maybe an eheim 2213?

CO2: I was thinking about a Milwaukee one, but unsure of the model?

Lighting: I was looking online and found this one. What do you guys think?

I think thats it for now guys, thanks for taking the time to go through this Thread!!

I like the look of the tank and that tree you have.
I am not knowledgeable on canister filters and stuff, I'm stuck on my AquaClears.

I will definitely be following along though, hopefully I learn a thing or two.

I know you plan on running a pressurized CO2 system but I think a Quad T5HO fixture may be a little over kill on a 15G and the CO2 may not be able to out compete algae from blooming. But, I'm sure you know what you're doing.

As for flora, I in vision a moss, like Fissidens, on that tree instead of basic, Java Moss. As for other plants a nice carpet of HC, Riccia, or Dwarf Hairgrass with like taller plants, like Junge Val, in varying positions around the moss tree would look nice and add some contrast. Maybe some decorative rocks.

Can't wait to see the turn out. :)

Why thank you!

I thought the exact same thing, but I will be blasting CO2, trust me on that lol if worst comes to worst, I'll take out a bulb, and have a shorter photoperiod. plus, the tank won't be stocked with fauna for a very long time after I get it up and running.

For some reason I didn't think of fissidens lol I was thinking about using, X-mass moss (Christmas moss), flame, or Taiwan moss. I'm still very unsure about which one to choose lol also, I'm only going to maybe have 3 types of plants in here, a carpeting plant, the moss on the tree, and maybe another type of plant, like an Eriocaulon species somewhere.

I don't want to talk about it...Let's just say, I woke up the next morning thinking "what did I just do."

Happens to me a lot :x lol
I'm guessing between 65$-80$

Flora wise, I'm thinking either HC, Eleocharis Belem, or Utricularia Graminfolia as the main carpet plant. Then In the back left corner behind the tree, having some DHG. Opinions please?:)

90??? :/ that's how much the larger ones cost over here >.<
HC with DHG in the back area would be awesome! What are you going to grow on the branches?

Gah:/

I think so too actually, but for some reason I kind of want to venture out with a new carpeting plant. HC seems kind of old and over used? I don't know, hopefully others can give me some more opinions:) I'm not sure yet actually, I was thinking maybe java or X-mas. What do you think?

Dude that tree is freakin awesome! I'm def following along! How about glosso? Have no experience with it yet but I'm gonna attempt some when I can afford to get my high tech 55 up and running...

can you get another one of them trees????? i need one shipping to the UK! an xmas moss would look great on it and just short hair grass along the bottom would look cool.

Glosso would be good too
& do trimmings all the way to the substrate & it grows shorter, looks great
Java & Xmas is played out moss :D
Weeping or fissidens would look great as they drop down

Thanks!! :DTo be honest, Ive never really had good feelings about glosso. I Think HC or Eleocharis Belem might look more natural in this type of a scape. Thanks for the idea though!!:flowers:

I dont think he's going to have anymore for a while, sorry:hide: Plus Ive never shipped something so delicate, I doubt it would make it in one piece. Or were you joking? lol Eleocharis Belem is a shorter more curly version of DHG (Dwarf Hair Grass) I think i might have that as the main carpet plant, still not sure. I also might have some DHG behind the tree on the left.

Im not sure about Glosso, Ive never really cared for it. IMO it tends to be messy? lol OK, Im either going to do Weeping or Fissidens! Would fissidens cover the Branches I'd attatch it too? Or would it just creep up the tree? Im leaning more towards Weeping moss. :thanks:

Wow thats awesome. Lets hope its worth it :D

Thanks! Yeah, im hoping the same thing! lol Thats why im going to take this tank along as slow as possible to make sure i do everything right (y)

Yeah weeping would be a good choice, delicate? What is it made from? Does the guy who made the tree have a site or was it just a one off thing?

I only say delicate because there are a lot of branches that can snap off very easily. Someone put the tree together in Vietnam, so I'm not sure, sorry:/

Weeping moss sounds good! I think I've made up my mind!:)

Did you put those little platforms on there? Those looks soooooo perfect for moss. I see more willow moss in there. I think a dhg carpet would look nice and some mountain stones supporting the base of the tree. I don't think you should have a background plant. Maybe just a moss wall, or a DIY rock background or just a black background
