Wow.. I'll keep most of my comments to myself as I'm sure they've been said already. I just see a lot of irony in that first post.

If you can't upgrade the tank, take the fish back. It's called being responsible. I didn't read the entire thread so maybe your working on an upgrade, in that case keep them.

Yeah I over engineered my stand but 2x4s are cheap so I think the stand weighs almost 100lbs plus glass substrate and water the final weight has to be near 800lbs

It is not about that either. If I had 500$ to drop into a super nice shelf I would. I love doing this and enjoy every moment. I am not rich though. I would gladly take my blocks over a 500$ stand, others may think it is trashy or ghetto and are willing to pay. You do get doors, nice shelves some even have dresser drawers. I see that and I assume you have $$$. Or planned it as an expense.

I would build my own, too. This way you can make it exactly as you want, its a good idea!

yet.

If you are writing to me that is what I did, you must not have had time to read my recent posts.

I already did, you did not read my recent posts.

Just because people spend a lot of money doesn't mean they are a serious aquarist. It just means they have extra money to spend lol. The serious aquarists are the ones who are smart about how they spend. You don't have to have a stand, you just have to have something sturdy to hold and support the tank. You can do whatever you like and whatever you think looks the best in your house, it's just super important for it to be able to hold hundreds of pounds. You don't wanna 55 gallons of water flooding your living room lol.

Maybe what you said was true, howvever, if I'm that serious about something I put into it all of my time, effort, money, whatever it takes. I would not go to the trouble of having a huge tank with or without a stand even, if I was not planning on having it for years. I would do it this way if I was sure I could maintain fish keeping for a long time. In my case, I might be moving in the next several years so I would not have something real elaborate, but something that fits in my house and is easier to transport if I do move.

I know the fish was taken back so Kudos. But this whole story from the beginning made me think of it this way and may put it into better perspective.

"I just bought a little Clydesdale horse today. I am keeping him in my 6x9 storage shed until I have to buy him a barn on a farm in a year when he outgrows it. Right now my house and land isn't big enough for a bigger barn, but I have things in the works that will get me that barn and land. I just can't do it right now. But he is happy with the 3 goats and 2 sheep. My shed stay clean because I clean it all the time. But they are happy because I sit and watch them try and move around. I read somewhere the Clydesdale only gets 3 feet tall. I have happy animals"

Very well written! I decided I'm done with this topic, no one understands my posts I guess, I have a priority here that certainly surpasses a fish tank, its a life threatening situation, I won't be writing back, hope everyone sees this and knows the bala tank was NO emergency and I was criticized in spite of explaining myself, and nothing compares to what I am doing now. Nothing. If more people can't write and give credit (the ones who didn't before) then I can't write anymore. My tank looks beautiful today and all is well there, there is no point in discussing balas anymore.

Well, written, it shows your perspective. No one sees mine.

You could post this 100 more times to be sure everyone sees it.

When you are on any forum you have to expect replies you don't like, not everyone is going to agree its a part of life. We are live and learn and make mistakes and learn from them hopefully.

Not everyone would have read your thread the day you posted it and now are commenting because they did read it. Maybe it will help the next person that tries to put such a huge growing fish in a tiny tank. You don't want to read anymore in this thread then just stop going into it and reading and commenting. Simple as that.

We understand you have an issue that is keeping you from upgrading the tank. But why should that be an excuse to keep a fish in a tank that is not proper. Ultimately it is your tank, it is your fish and you can do whatever you want, just don't expect everyone on the forum to agree with it.

Fully agree!! You have a life threatning issue you should not have obtained the fish and by doing so you threatened his life. The moment I can not provide proper care for mine, they will be handed over to someone that can.

We have all been there!! I bought fish that would outgrow my tank "Clown Loaches"! Awesome fish, but I didn't read up on them nor did I do my research. Most of the people here do a lot of talking, like they are the only voice when it comes to fish tanks. Don't let that get too you. What they fail to tell you is how much fish they have killed over the years to learn the lessons they now know. I learned that upgrading after the fact is not always great, as the move stressed my fish and they died.

A lot of people here telling you to upgraded, but offered little advice on where to get a good deal. Go to Craigslist, you wouldn't believe some deals you can get. I saw one on my list for a 125 for FREE! No stand nothing, just the tank! I have seen 200 gallon tanks with basic stuff that will work until you can upgrade the equipment for as low as 200 dollars. It can be done and done cheaply!! If you know where to look. The petco $1 a gallon sale is great and all, but you still have to buy everything else, so you end up spending a lot more. Tanks are not the issue with prices, it's the equipment.

We have all killed fish, it happens. We have all rushed into buying a fish before we knew what to do. Don't let people tell you that you did something wrong, because you didn't. You saw a fish you liked and bought it. Now you know!!! Get others the information before they start a tank. Now you know to research before buying a fish, and now you know that each fish has their own needs. Now you can inform others, before they make the same mistake. Good luck with the upgrade and don't let others get you down.
