After a trip to another lfs! This one wasn't as impressive(algae on tanks, sick fish, way way overpriced). Any way, I've made a few changes in a stocking plan. First off, would a zig zag eel be ok with my tank? And if not, it's ok. But here are some questions
-could I do kuhli and Cory's?
-could I do neon tetras and not cherry barbs (saw em In real life, don't love them that much!)
So here's a few plans I'd like to do
-4 kuhli loaches
-4 Julii Cory's
-6-8 neon tetras
-1 German blue ram
-1 apistogramma cichlid
-1 powder blue dwarf gourami
- 1 golden wonder killifish?( I'm ok if not)
Id really like this stock (notice I've cut the swordtail and the bb gobys out. Could I Mabye also have a school of harqualin rasboras?

OR

-4 Julii Cory's
-1 apistogramma
-1 German blue ram
-1 pearl gourami
-6 neon tetras
-6 rumynose tetras
-3 guppys

And both, I'd add a zebra nerite and 3 oto cats

I would up your otos to 5 so they feel secure, and remember to space out the adding of your stock, least aggressive to most and keep a close eye, any semi aggressive community set up with feeder fish that have long tails (guppy). Cichlids are my favorite freshwater bullies that aren't black market fish and they are definite fin nippers and tank mate eaters. Just a word of advice

Thanks for the quick reply! Can you answer some of the questions? And how do the plans sound?

A zigzag eel would get too big for a 29 gallon. I wouldn't do both cories and kuhlis in a tank that size, as kuhlis are very active. One or the other would be fine, though. You could easily do neons instead of cherry barbs. I like plan two much better than plan 1. You could even up the school of neons to 8 or so.

You don't really need to stock least aggressive to most aggressive, especially since there are virtually no aggressive fish in the stocking plan. And while yes, some cichlids are very aggressive, others are not. Rams and Apistos are not especially aggressive, and so I would not be that worried about keeping them with guppies.

Also, upping the otos to 5 is not necessary.

Golden killi's get bigger and can get very aggressive. I don't recommend them.

Thanks, I appreciate it. So without an eel, would the 1st plan work? And would the 2nd work also?

It's not necessary to up the otos to 5, it's just a suggestion, I keep and love otos and it's speaking from personal experience. I have watched a gbr nip at the fins of a fancy guppy, not saying they are out on the attack, just saying their curiosity sometimes leads to fin nipping and bacterial problems.

Darn. I like them both alot. So do kuhlis eat off the bottom as well a Cory's? So would changing the Cory's to kuhli or kuhli to Cory's be ok? I still haven't decided

Yes, kuhlis are bottom dwellers just like cories. Kuhlis are very active, so I would only do 4 in a 29 gallon, but you could probably do 7 cories or so.

So how bout this

-4 kuhli or Cory's
-1 apisto
-1 German blue ram
-1 dwarf gourami
-6 neons
-3 otos
Wht could be added?

The cores and kuhlis will be fine together. I have 4 of each in my 29 gallon and both are fine together.

So in this thread, it was advised or kuhlis and for Cory's in a 29? And tetra, can u post a pic of the tank?

I guess it is subject to opinion, but kuhlis just go zip zip zip all day long and IMO adding more to the bottom level in this size tank would be overcrowding. In larger tanks, you could easily do more, but the footprint of a 29 isn't ALL that great.
