Well I have a 10 gallon, with 7 black neon tetras. I research fish tons before I get them, so I know I can't get plecos, and I have gravel so no cories. I recently wondered about bottom dwellers, though- would 1 or 2 Ottos work in there if I give algae wafers and zucchini and lettuce? I don't want shrimp. Or, even if not a bottom dweller, any suggestions on fish that are peaceful, but that I can get only one or two of?

I think ottos would be fine. Just wanted to let you know that lots of people keep cories successfully with gravel.

Ya I used to have ghost shrimp, but I have been looking into ottos, just wanted advice from a person I asked, not Wikipedia

I nee to get more plants first though, any suggestions? I had some before but they all died.

The minimum group for otos is three. Not sure about their minimum tank size though. They like blanched cucumber and zucchini. You can try algae wafers too.

They actually do ok in small spaces as long as they can school in a hiding spot during they day. They do best in schools of 5 or more, but, from personal experience, can survive on their own fine, you probably wont see them if you have a group of 3, until before bed, or clinging to something eating algae, they are pretty small even all grown up.

Would it be overstocking either adding to my 7 tetras:

2 African dwarf frogs and 2 otos
Or
4 otos

Would adding 4 otos or 2 otos and 2 ADFs to my 7 tetras be too much in a 10 gallon

IMO, I don't think black neons are appropriate for 10 gals. I have some in my 30 and I can't imagine them in anything smaller. They do get pretty big, about 2 inches. I think if you were to switch them out with a school of nano fish, then 2-4 ottos and 2 ADFs would work just fine.

+1 to this.

Blanching is doing a quick cook /dip in boiling water for a min. or two to soften and partially cook the veggie (or fruit). And as a side note, it deactivates enzymes /can make it easier to digest, also, necessary for stabilizing veggies primarily before freezing.

How long might depend on the size of pieces you have prepared and variety of food, as in how hard it is to begin with, like winter squash is hard and would take longer to par boil/blanch than a piece of zucchini or a leaf of Kale.

Anybody know what this is? Sorry to just barge in but I'm not having much luck elsewhere.
