The more and more I read about these fish, the more I want them! My water is nearly perfect for them. PH 7.8 and hard water. But I want to know, are they hard to look after? I have a ten gallon tank currently. How many adults could this tank sustain. I'm trying to breed different dwarf cichlids in this areas because we only have rams and kribs. Are they easy to breed? And is £10 for one a good deal? I'm sorry but I don't know what that is in dollars. Any info is helpful and I would love to hear from people who keep them. Or when I have move I will HOPEFULLY be getting a smallish room for my fish tanks. Maybe I can sneak in a 25g plastic tub? I'm not actually sure.

I think at least 4 could work. Those guys are supposedly easy to breed

short answer
1 sand
2 3 shells per multi min.
3 ph around 8
4 temp around 80 deg
5 feed a good staple
6 give a treat like blood worms or brine shrimp
7 do a water change
8 you should have fry in a week.

4 will work in a 10 but you will need to eventualy remove fry or you will be over crowded they may or may not keep the fry numbers under controll.
Once they are adults you will never net them. You will have to but a small container in the tank and move the shell with fish into the container. Never try to move the shell out of the container or you might end up with an air pocket in the shell and a dead multi stuck in the shell.

Oh thanks! So they're pretty easy to care for huh? Would 40ppm nitrates affect their breeding? Because that is what comes out the tap :L

Hmmmm not sure on that. But I would say they will be fine because my son in law had a 29 with who knows how many and he almost never does water changes. He started with 6 and last count a year ago he stoped at 50. He has a ton of lace rock for fry to hide in.

Thanks a lot!!! Is there any breeding signs or are they secretive?

I was thinking of doing 24 shells, so they would have 6 shells each? Hopefully the tank will be looking good! Do they like boxwood or plants?

Mainly sand and shells. Dont put too much thought on smoothing the sand or placement of the shells they will rearange it to their liking. Im about to do a cleaning on mine and smooth the sand out. all i see right now is 8" of sand up the front of the tank and a glass bottom pit with the shells piled in it.

Update: I have ordered 24 escargot shells, and a sponge filter. Thoughts on using cichlid lake salts? I have found someone who can sell me 4 hopefully sexed multies. I might go for six though, then sell the males

I've started to transform the tank! I cleared out all the decor, and sand. I rinsed a new bag of sand like seven times. I put the new sand in the tank, and It's so cloudy I can't see my fingers if they are an inch away. I've stuck two filters running carbon in there. Do you think it will clear? By the way the sand bed must be 2-3 inches thick!

I would like some pics! Shellie's are awesome. I have a lot of Shellie's around me but no spare tank :(

What! I have to order mine from Scotland. That's the other side of the uk. Hahahahaha the shipping is only £5 for a pair so $7? they will be arriving in October. I completly gutted the tank and added a sponge filter, new sand, and lots of shells. I will just finish dinner then get the pictures.

I can get lamprologus meleagris 5/$25 and your making me really want too!

You really should! They won't disappoint you! I'm hoping to breed and sell mine. Plus theyre really interesting and I love them! I'm doing the multifascitus. You should try them!
