I can't come up with an entire stock list for you because I don't know what's available and what you want. Why don't you just shoot me some ideas? Hopefully some other people will chime in on this thread too because it's just the two of us in here :).

What's this about a 30L shrimp tank now?

haha i know right! big thread! well i was planning to get a 30L tank and hold RCS but then i thought of bigger but its so expensive

I wanna start off small with my tanks , and gradually go bigger, i think now (SORRY) I might get something like 30/40 litre and do a little tropical tank?

Is the 30L (which is less than 10 gallons) tank with the shrimp something you want? Honestly it's not THAT much more expensive to set up a 29 gallon than a 10 gallon. Heater costs about the same. Top (light+glass or hood) is an extra 20 "quid" as you say, filter is an extra 20, tank is an extra 20. So for about 60 pounds extra you can go from the 10 to the 29, just bare equipment wise. That's not taking into account the added cost of decorating a larger tank.

I would suggest doing a 29 gallon and just working the shrimp into that. Then you get everything you want. Let's stick with the 29 gallon. You'll have enough money with 300-400 pounds. If we start talking about a 10 or 20 gallon now, the last 15,000 pages of this thread will have been for nothing.

HAHA, okay very true, 15,000 :p yeh £300 but my grandma gives me £100 to what i want at xmas so £350-400 really is what i'll have in my hand on January 1st (PAY DAY!!!!!!!) so yes.. what do i get?!

Have we gotten nowhere in these 15 000 pages? We agreed on what to get, then you changed your mind. I don't even know what size tank you're getting now.

We have, i suppose, well if i get my money which i will i can probably spend like £150-200 on a tank and stand so it can be big, and £100-200 on fish ,equipment ,filters,decoration..

so what tank size are we saying and what tank from www.petsathome.co.uk should i get, what drift wood, what plants, what filters, substrate, and if lighting comes with the tank good enough - for definite, :)

also once i got my tank and stand there and set up and found a place, what do i do, put water in, start aquascaping:/

Dude I'm getting more confused as time goes on...

You have to tell ME what tank you're getting. It makes no difference to me. Pick a tank that will let you keep the kinds of fish you want.

And yes once you get everything set up, add water, dechlorinate aquascape, add plants, let it sit overnight, then add some biomedia from your goldfish tank and start out with a very small group of fish.

how is this at all confusing, im confused why you are confused, you know what you're doing so what tank (55 gallon i think we said) well i don't know what fish im wanting yet, dont know any tropical fish, when i go to maiden aquatics i will look at fish write it down and write down what equipment they said and tell you, ok!?

Sounds like a plan. See what equipment they have in stock and suggest for a 55 gallon, and whether it ends up being within your budget. Tell them you want to grow some low light plants so that they sell you adequate lighting. (Unless you changed your mind on that)

Ask them what they'd suggest as livestock for the 55 gallon (based on fish they have in stock there) and double check with the forum here before you pull the trigger on any purchases.

Seriously, check out aqadvisor.com . That way you can check out your stocking levels.

Some low light plants that you can grow with pretty much any lighting is - anubias (lots of varieties), bolbitus, java moss, java fern, and crypts (also many different varieties).

I would still buy used. Just check gum tree and see if you can find any 250L tanks in your price range. Most come with a stand.

THANKS!!! :) just found out i'll have around £200 / £250 by christmas day or new year[

You could get some nice mollys. They don't get very big and aren't as colorful as cichlids, but they are some pretty hardy and exciting fish!!!

nah they're boring, for god sake all i want is a big tank and big colourful fun fish, not that expensive!

and on gumtree theyre cheap but AGES AWAY and dont deliver

Yes but i am in the middle of NO WHERE and no one keeps fish round here,
