I would love some suggestions for a centrepiece for my tank. It currently has 3 swordtails and 5 neon tetras. It is an established tank and I would like a fish or fishes that really pop. I would prefer if they were a fair size (bigger then my tetras and swordtails).

I'm not interested in gouramis as I know theses will for sure be suggested but I'm just not interested in them :) Also i will be getting a school a Cory's for the bottom.

Thanks :)

I think you could do an angel, or maybe a male ram or a pair of rams.
It also wouldn't hurt to add to your neon school.
I might be concerned about the swordtails though.. They get fairly large and in my experience when you only have 2-3 the most dominant one chases the others to death when they reach maturity.

How about a balloon Molly, my friends is really nice I'm thinking of getting my own since I saw him today!.. They come in all sorts of colours.. Nice size.. I really like them and find to be a nice alternative to the dwarf gourami.. :) ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1391751063.691525.jpg

So far I've had no problem with the swords and those were the fish I was considering haha I'll see what I can find!

I believe thats a male sailfin moly. Thats what I'm replacing my white one, Gary just had a mystery death a week ago :( but I think I might want something else :)

So, I am suggesting a gourami anyways. :) The paradise fish is an amazing gourami, and has some different colors and behaviors from the traditional 3 spot (blue, gold, opaline) gourami.
I also second the suggestions of an angel or ram or apisto of some sort.
You will somewhat limited on size, but there are tons of very cool looking, colorful apistos and other very cool dwarf cichlids.

Thats what I really want but living in a small town in canada and buying/finding rare tropical fish dont go hand and hand if u know what I mean ;)

I see. Do you have some places locally that you could order a fish from? Do you at least have a store around you for purchases?

Ya small local stores. Small selection not much knowledge. Very high prices... I'm going to the states this weekend 2.5 hour drive, so I'm going to look there because I think they can make the trip home because they spend longer times in a bag on a air plane, right?

A 2.5 hour drive is no big deal. If is seems chilly, just bring a cooler and some insulating material (even just blankets would be fine). I have transported fish around plenty of times over hours long treks. No biggee at all.
I definitely suggest looking for rams or something similar if you an find it. Bolivians tend to be hardier then Germans for most people, though the Germans are more colorful. An angel could be an option, but no guarantees it won't eventually eat your neons. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Depends on the fish.

Thanks I'm going to see what catches my eye

I agree with the gourami. :) I think that's a little tight for an angel but an apisto of some sort would work.

I wouldn't get Angelfish as your tank size is too small to keep the adult ones. Angelfish can get up to 6 inches. If you really want a centerpiece, you could go for a Ram or another type of Dwarf Cichlid. Also, a school of Threadfin Rainbowfish can be a very colorful addition to your tank.

Green spotted puffer! :) amazing little fish!

It will destroy all the other fish and it needs brackish then marine as it grows up. I agree on rams but if you want to be adventurous maybe a pair of keyhole cichlids would be cool

But I was considering aspitogrammas they look like amazing fish. But all the ones I saw were like 60+ dollars and I don't think I can spend that much. Does anyone know of any aspitogrammas that are a little more affordable? And if they would work in my tank?

It wont require marine as it matures... It will thrive well in freshwater when young and then brackish is required when it is older. It isnt a necessity for it to be it marine... Its more of a choice. Mine did very well with lots of different tank mates from small to large and never harmed a thing! :) maybe i was lucky!
