Ok, Im a little freaked out. For some reason my sword tail and TF barb are ganging up on my goldfish! They seem to be biting him, and the goldfish just sits there and takes it! Please help! Whats wrong with my goldfish?

Any advice would be great!

You're goldfish is fine! Barbs and swordtails are notorious fin nippers, especially against long finned fish like your goldfish. Separate the bullies for a while and decorate your tank with caves for you're goldfish to hide in. Then you can put the removed fish back in you're regular tank, and then closely monitor the bullies for any rude behavior.

OMG thank you! I have never seen this before! It just worried me because the goldfish is doing nothing! He just sat there and let them bite him. I will try to add some more caves and hiding places.

Thanks!

Op, I'm pretty sure we've talked about this before, so as not to beat a dead horse here.. Goldfish really deserve their own setup.. Are you using a heater yet?

Hey Brookster123! Yes I did get a heater :) i have it set to 75 now! It sure beats 66!!! Anyway, I know they need their own set up, but it sure beats having him in a 10 gal! I know we kinda went over this a while ago, but I have never seen this behavior before.

I don't know bud, In all honesty I'm sure you love your stock but I'm thinking you're just going to keep running into problems with them.. they're going to grow and grow and with added size, added aggression could follow.. All the best my fishy friend:)

Good. The bigger the better, you know what I'm sayin?

Yeah, I gotcha! Hey, wanna hear a total FAIL?! Before the 40 breeder, i had all of them in a 10 gallon! I, Trickshot3102, had a Tinfoil Barb, goldfish, mollie AND a swordtail in a 10 gallon!

Wowzers, so that's all that's in the 40 now?

If you think THATS a mistake, then wait till you hear this: I put a 6-7 inch PLECO in my heavily crowded 10 gallon tank. Fortunately for him, my friend has a 50 gallon tank for him to stay in for now.

I know I chose a TERRIBLE stock, but I love them to pieces! I guess I will have to just see how things go. You know whats weird is, the goldfish is the biggest at 4 inches, and the TF barb is 3, so it seems like a competition for dominance! But what is really weird, the goldfish really just sits there and takes it! Oh well *sigh*. Anyway, thank you so much for your help and I will keep this thread updated :) Maybe its just a weird one time incident. Thank you, my fishy friend :)

Oh man I know how you feel! OOOOOOOO! I think I can beat it! OK, this is NOT a joke and Im being totally serious! Ok... I had TWO BALA SHARKS IN A 3 GALLON!!! Just before i got the 10 gal, one died and the other died in the 10 gallon :(

I guess it's not the worst stock I've ever seen haha, if you are dead set in keeping it the way it is than atleast maybe try to break up the tank with a lot if plants for them to hide in if need be..

I have a glass hood and a flourescent strip light, and what's good is that the lights last for a loooong time compared to incandescent lights, and the glass hood also reduces evaporation.
