I want to get some bam bam zoas from the lfs but the frag disc they come one is just packed with hair algea, how can i get this off?

It will most likely die off if you tank isn't as polluted as the tank it came from , those frag tanks can get nasty lol

You can brush it off with an old toothbrush. I like removing it before adding it to my tank.

You can also dip the coral in a mixture of peroxide and saltwater. let sit a few minutes and the hair algae will die off over the next few days. :)

I usually fill a small pail and pout a few capfuls in or a short pour. You dont want too much in it. The algae may look like its fine when youre done but within a day or two it will just turn brown and die. Old reefer trick I picked up somewhere. lol

There's a ratio I believe it's a 4:1 ratio.
4 parts Salt Water
1 part Peroxide

Then I think the dip time is like 5 minutes.

Good information will...:) I just eyeball it myself but nice to know there is a formula for it.

The peroxide doesn't harm the coral at all? Is it safe for all types of coral?

I'll have to file this one away.

Lol hydrogen peroxide is freaking amazing! They really should sell it in LFS.

I should buy a bunch in bulk from BJs, bottle it, slap on some "Super-powerful Algae Killer" labels and re-sell it :)
Did you ever smell coral RX? It sure reminds me of a famous household product!
maybe a few drops of food coloring...

Let me tell you how good hydrogen peroxide is...... I had some rocks that no matter what I did had tons of green hair algae on it. I mean long. I decided to take a few pieces and leave them in a tub filled with salt water, hydrogen peroxide and a nice power head. I covered and let sit for maybe 3 weeks. When I went back to get the rocks out, they were pearly white! I mean it killed and removed EVERYTHING! Check out one piece. The blue lights don't show it justice.ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1392827654.209871.jpg

If it was covered, the algae probably died due to lack of lighting. I'm sure the peroxide helped, though, and bleached the rock, too.

A "standard" H2O2 dip, from what I've read, is 4:1 tank water:peroxide, dip for 3-5 minutes, then rinse. The algae will die off in 3-5 days.

I've tried just putting the rocks in a covered tank with the power heads and didn't get anywhere near this result.
