Took me a little while to remember the species. I don't recall ever seeing a live one, but on checking my notes it turns out I've studied the anatomy of the species. Nice looking fish. Interesting to see if anyone knows the species ... perhaps a North American native fish buff.

I see that the species occurs north to the Chesapeake. I lived in DC for a while and kept a range of local natives. It's a shame I didn't come across this one though.

Not rude. Was going with Neogobius fluviatilis but your clue implies that the "neo" would have to be dropped. Idk
