Guess That Species!!

Took me a little while to remember the species. I don't recall ever seeing a live one, but on checking my notes it turns out I've studied the anatomy of the species. Nice looking fish. Interesting to see if anyone knows the species ... perhaps a North American native fish buff.

These fish jump started my appreciation for gobies when I lived in Florida

I see that the species occurs north to the Chesapeake. I lived in DC for a while and kept a range of local natives. It's a shame I didn't come across this one though.
 
Well, so far I've given clues for the genus name and the common name, but no takers. I could give the species name, but that would be being greedy. (Time to reach for your Latin dictionaries, I think!)
