Sounds like an awesome tank. Did you have a budget in mind?

After searching for one like mine I think it is a flat back hex. I'll definitely look into those? What about some colors besides green? I'll post a picture here in a bit. I'm trying to get the canister hooked up.

I would prefer not to spend any more money on equipment. I have a dual T8 light (normal output) but I just need to get different bulbs for it. In the future I wouldn't mind spending more on equipment but I just had my 125 gallon come apart and spent money on buying a temporary setup for the fish that were in there.

With that light you'll be pretty limited in plant selection, low low light plants like java fern, moss and val's maybe, crypts and anubias too.

Another question. Would the tannins that the DW releases help the fish transition from their old tank? I'm moving over as much water as I can from the previous tank to the new one so I don't waste it but I don't want it to shock the fish.

What light could I get that's not too expensive? Is there a way to just upgrade the light I have now without buying a new fixture?

And would I need airstones?! Sorry, I have a ton of questions but I want to get it right the first time!

You'll need to move the filter as well as to not re-cycle, it will probably go through a mini if it's a larger tank. The dw tannins will calm the fish a bit but nothing ground breaking..

You could get a finnex planted plus led and that would give you good range for low to low/med light plants, maybe a dwarf sag foreground with some amazon swords and rotala background.

I moved all the filter media to the new filter. Both of them had been running on my 125 before it let loose. Just worried the BB from the largest filter has died since its been about 5 days.

Ok good. I didn't empty any water. I think I'll be ok moving them with what you've said. I'm going to move the catfish last (he's my favorite and I want to make sure all the other live first). Thank you!!

Good difference? I'm ALMOST done. Just need to top off the water and get the filter running! Pictures coming soon!

Great looking piece of driftwood! Maybe placed too centrally though. Look up the rule if thirds when aquascaping.

Good start though

Thank you! I will! When I plant something like a sword do I have to place a root tab right then or would it be ok for a little while?

Starting to look into a planted tank for my 29 gal. I am sure if you don't think of a question I probably will! I am tired of the plastic plants, and am looking for something new when I restock the tank.

Well between you and I I'm pretty sure this will be the only post people need to read for info lol! Can't wait to get mine going and to see what you come up with along the way!

You can wait for the root tab and add them any time you can, but asap, as there really isn't anything in there for it, no fish poop no ingredients for growing.

The root tabs are placed about 3" deep and I for get what the average is but 4-5 inches, it says on the package. I use a different kind, mine is every 4 square inches. so you might want to do 3 tabs if it is a decent size.

Think about the space around the plant where the roots will actually grow out 6 inches diameter easily. Then come in about 1.5 inches like if there was a triangle in the root circle.

Other plants which you might place near the Sword would also benefit from the same root tab if its root zone was nearby.

Yay for people getting live plants.

Low light can still have a great looking tank. Here is a pic of one (water was low for some Mystery snail eggs) This is a 72G tank with one 32W bulb for plants

I have a few little fish now. I'm looking to do more SA cichlids like some Electric Blue Acaras and some keyhole cichlids.
