Aww man, so sorry to hear that! Did he have any food?

No I didn't have a chance to feed him. I think it was my fault that he died. I was always told that inverts need more time to acclimate than fish do and I found out that was not true. I acclimated him for over an hour and according to the store where I purchased him, your only suppose to aclimate inverts for 30 minutes.

No that's gotta be BS. A longer acclamation is actually safer and easier on inverts From what I've read inverts need a long acclimation
I know back when I got my starfish I acclimated him for almost 2 hours. I gave my harlequin at least an hour and it was a very smooth transition for the shrimp. There had to of been a different cause. Was there any starfish in the harlequin holding tank? They probably didn't feed him plus the stress of moving. Also the outside temps being so cold is not good for them either to have rapid temp changes.

No star fish in the holding tank. He was really small and it was there last one. I went and picked up another one today. They gave me 25% off and this one is a bigger one. I acclimated him like they told me and he seemed to be doing ok. I gave him a piece of star fish and he was eating. We will see if he makes it.

Ok its good he's eating. Hope this one works out for you.

The harlequin in "show off your fave non fish" brought me here, great build.
Cheers.

Sorry to inform you that I just recently got rid of mt harlequin to a buddy setting up a species tank. Those choc chip stars get expensive after a while and I want to get another star for the DT. But welcome to the thread still! :)

Ok got a small photo dump today. My anemone has finally cooperated with me a rested its foot right where I wanted! This is day 2 and hasn't moved. Also I have noticed that I have not seen my beloved orchid dottyback in a few days. Ever since I moved some rocks around to free a little more room for SPS's. I sure hope he shows up he was my favorite. :( No fish on the floor and haven't seen him in the sump.

Cheers, at least you did the right thing I guess? You did mention the specialised diet, it's a shame they (the stars) can't be easily bred!

I'm still dreaming of a reef! So it's always nice to see thing a like this, I don't think I'll get bored of looking at these things.

The tank is looking awesome Paul! Really nice job

Did you epoxy, putty or drill any of the rocks or get get them seated in well? I am getting ready to move my 15G to a 35G...? I really like how you were able to get so many levels and ledges in there and still have wide open space.

Nope. I thought about it though. I messed with the rocks long enough to get them stacked pretty stable. I did cut a big sheet of eggcrate to put in the tank before rock and sand to help grip the foundation rock better. This is the first time I did this and I seems like it helped a bit.

Eggcrate?, the foam stuff or the plastic grid cover for lighting? Sorry to sound like a dolt:oops:

No, egg crate is what is commonly called 'light defuser'. It is cheap stuff that is used commercially to cover up fluorescent lights in buildings. Basically plastic squares. I have it under my sand bed, as a cover for my tank, and made frag racks out of it. Pretty useful stuff if you look at it. The sizes of the holes are JUST right.

Lookin good Paul, been awhile since I stopped in. I have that same species of blasto. It grew like crazy after it was acclimated for a few weeks. Of course then I lost a few thousand bucks in SPS and LPS when my power failed for a couple days while I was out of town. Actually the blasto is one of the few that survived, and I am hoping it'll come back. I think initially, it grew a dozen heads in about a year.

I like the rearrangement, and the tank looks great!
