I really want to add more plants to this side, since my Rotala is turning into a bush, and there's no other plant doing so.
I have dwarf hygro and water wisteria as well, but surprisingly, they aren't growing as fast...
I'm planning on adding a DIY CO2 kind of thing next week and I'm actually looking for a better light today
I'm using Seachem root tabs only for the Rotala.
Should I use Seachem excel as CO2 supplement, or should I just jump right into DIY CO2. Post your suggestions
What plants should I add? What other fish should I add? The only fish right now is a betta and 3 other platies.

I really like crypts. Easy to grow and come I'm slightly different shapes and shades of green and reddish

For new plants to add, I personally like anubias and ludwigia. What type of personality does your betta have?

He's calm most if the time. He does attack the platies during feeding, but he never bothers the platies where their not eating

Might look into crypts as well.

I've had dwarf hygro before. It grows slowly under low light. It's a bit like S. Repens then.

Anubias species work well attached to driftwood.

Ok so I got a 6500K bulb from Home Depot today and the Rotala is enjoying it. It already turned orangey-red
So i want to have a CO2 supplement, but can't find Seachem excel anywhere local. What are alternatives?

Online you can get a gallon of Metricide 14 for $20 something on Amazon. Same active ingredient as Seachem Excel and API CO2 Booster. Volume wise, equivalent to 7.5 bottles of Excel (500 mL size). Strength wise, equal to 15 bottles of Excel.
Make sure you get the Metricide 14 and not Metricide 28. The latter has undesirable/unsafe ingredients.

I think I'll use The API one

Metricide is 2x stronger than Excel. So you do 1/2 the dose you would normally do if using Excel.

I use Metricide in my discus tank. If you start off easy(increase to desired level over time) it's perfectly safe and will last a long time.

So I added new plants yesterday!!! Java Fern, Anubias, and frogbit from the 30 gallon. The tannins from the wood in the 30 were making the tank darker, so they weren't doing so well.

Make sure you don't physically plant the Java Fern or Anubias (it's hard to see from pic if you did or not). They feed from the rhizome and if that's planted it's like suffocating the plant.

Don't worry, I've been keeping plants for a long time. I buried the roots only, exposing the rhizome

And also, just to add, the Anubias is attached to plastic mesh (the ones used for DIY aquarium dividers)

Gotcha, I couldn't really tell from the pic (it's also very late at night lol) so I just wanted to be sure :)

I ordered it from eBay. Search around for the cheapest price.

Just make sure it's Metricide 14 not 28 and you just throw out the activating agent.

So I ended up getting API CO2 boost. I also have Seachem Flourish. How do I add the liquids? Can I add them both at once?

You can add them both at once or separate. Doesn't matter. Read the labels to make sure you are not overodosing.
