Hello,
I am starting a new small tank.
47cm cube. 100 litres. (27g)

I want to make it look saltwater like and was thinking some small non aggressive african cichlids that don't grow larger than 8cm.

Is there anything that what suit and is colourful?

I am only after 4 or 5 small fish. I like understocked tanks.

Also, is an Eheim 2213 filter suitable?

Thanks.

Lol really?
What about brichardi?

Brichardi although semi 'reasonable' is not a small fish IMO.
The most peaceful AC are Tangs(minus the dubosi)IMO.
But most are not small .
Look into julidochromis sp(like marlieri or reganni).
But I think the tank is a little tight for most AC?

I love marlieri. That was one I had my eye on.

I dont know much about Africans.

I only need 4 african fish plus a pleco.

Any others?

On the same line as Brichardi there are
Lamprolugus Sp.
Lelupi is most common(yellow) and then cylindicrus which is striped.
A 27 is tight I will say again.
Why do you need 4 and a pleco??
What makes you think this?

Anything more than 4 will be overstocked.

I just came up with these numbers myself.

3 or 4 small colorful fish plus a bristlenose pleco, and im happy.

Cylindricus and lelupi can be quite nasty. In a 27 you aren't really going to get away with more than a couple brichardi and a few julies.

4 electric yellow work great together. Just saying from experience..

Neolamprologus Multifasciatus, brevis, occelatus, or similis maybe?

They are shell dwellers but some rockwork is nice too so it could look a lot like a SW setup.

This is mine:

Look into the pulcher family of Cichlids, small, decent and will breed in pairs. They stay around 4 inches and look great in small aquariums.

Pulcher family? Puncher is a species name held by several fish of different genus'

Beat me to it lol

Based on the username,
I'm assuming they are referring to pelvicachromis

Should I just not do african cichlids and do rams or gouramis or something? Peaceful tropical tank?

Really depends on what you're interested in. I successfully kept regani, calvus, and occies in a 29g; calvus and stapps in a 20l.

I want a saltwater look. Understocked tank.

No aggression wanted.

N. Multifasciatus can satisfy all of this IMO. They do breed easily so you may need to have a place to get rid of the fry (sell, give away, or feed to other fish :( ), but 2 males and 2-4 females should be low on stock and aggression. Rocks in the middle will give you that SW look.

Multis are easily the most aggressive fish I own. While I do keep extremely peaceful fish, multis are like the chihuahuas of the fish world....scale them up to the size of some of the big boys and they'd be monsters. I would not call them low aggression by any means

Peacocks are cheap when you buy them small of course but you want understocked which may be a prob with peacocks, they do have nice color though.
