This is what we had on our 150g and had to switch to a different light. It just didn't go deep enough, as soon as we switched everything took off with growth.

Lumen is total amount if visible light and watt is a unit of power. But your question was what light to go with for a 55g? Depends on budget, metal halide will work but you pay over and over again on the electric bill and bulbs, T5's again bulb cost, so in my opinion, LED is the way to go now...

If it's a toadstool, they need help sloughing off their old skin. Check your water flow where the coral is and make sure he's getting enough. They need moderate to strong flow to keep them happy.

There are lions with black fins. But whats more alarming is the inhabitants in the tank with the lion......he will kill all of them eventually...that is sad :(

Sorry about your fish:(. Metronidazole by seachem works good for sick fish.....don't know if he's too far gone but it's worth a shot and you can add it directly to the tank if he won't eat.

Yeah you almost always have to see it in person...or spend thousands on a fancy camera...I love the blue leds :)

Have you thought about going with LED lighting? Lower cost to run, no expensive bulbs, heat isn't an issue and you can have nems to sps if you want to....just a thought :) We switched to them a long time ago and have been very happy....in this hobby it seems like if you don't spend on everything...
