Happened to me what I did and worked I got the ammonia chemical from petco emptied my whole tank completely and started over and added ammonia everyday and tested

I'm cheap and just use nets or a breeding tank u put in the tank. I think it's Wendy separate food separate cleaning more chemicals more electric more money to keep the filter running with charcoal and nitrites just keeps going I've done it to much for me good luck

Should b plenty also if its a new tank it tanks time for the water to settle the tap which also doesn't help with 50% change it recommended to do 20-30% unless it gets contaminated. Also go to Walmart get the drops crystal clear. Also that's a lot of fish for a 20 gallon usually just convicts...
