Don't forget depending on how much uprooting/moving and type of plants you have, Layered substrates tend to get all mixed up over time. I no longer do layers cause I mess around with my plants way to much.
I didn't know the names of the top of my head, but I did remember where I saw pics of those plants before. When I first started keeping plants I bought the same plants and was really pissed when I found out what they where.
Nice Pics Travis, Mind telling me what camera/lens you using. I just picked up a minolta 5D with a 105mm Macro and have found out that macro photography is not easy.

The first one looks like a Pilea cadierel the second one looks like Acorus calamus . They are not true aquarium plants, they will die and make a mess of your water params. Take them back to where you got them and get your money back.

You could keep the HOB and just remove the bio wheels. The bio wheels will degass a lot of CO2, if your doing Pressurized CO2 its not a big deal, since all you have to do is add more CO2. I used to run 2 emperor 400 on my 55 Gallon with
Pressurized CO2 and It was working fine. I did have to...
If you decide to buy one instead of leasing, try a fire extinguisher shop. Some shops sell CO2 tanks for a good price. But shop around; I have seen a big difference in price from place to place.

Nutrient Limiting the Algae just doesn't make sense. There is always more than enough nutrients in a fertilized planted tank for the algae. If the Plant have enough then so do the algae. Nutrient limiting for algae can't be right. There has to be more to it than that.
I only DEEP vacuum the substrate in my planted tank when the mulm builds way up.
1 or 2 times a year. On regular water changes(50% weekly) I just wave the vac over the substrate if I can get to it. In a high-light planted tank there is really no need to vacuum the substrate as the mulm that...
I have to agree with shannen and not go the 50/50 Mix, I did that in one of my tanks to save money and now I wish I hadn't.
But I must say that with the 60/40 mix of eco/regular black gravel I do get great plant growth. Its that over time all the eco has settled to the bottom and the regular...
I would'nt exactly disagree, But you have to take into account the type of lighting
and the quality of the reflectors used for the lights.
2WPG of T5-HO with great reflectors is more light than 2WPG of regular NO lights with poor or no reflectors.
I think that the WPG rule is geard towards...
