Black water actually looks really nice imo and depending on the decorations you may like it as well. Tannins don't do any harm to the fish. Don't think carbon will have an effect on tannins.

You may be right about the over-feeding... The night I returned from my vacation I had to scoop food out of the tank despite strict instruction not to feed them if there was food still in the tank. Ah well. Thanks for the input

I have one rubberlip pleco who I got the driftwood for in the first place and he hasn't gone near the wood (I assume because of the fungus?). Would you say one 50% followed by a 25% wc a couple of days apart for a couple of weeks would handle this?

Posting in general because I'm not sure where this would go... See pictures below I put a small piece of driftwood in my 30 gallon about a month and a half ago and within a few days of putting it in the tank this white fungus like stuff started forming on it. I am aware that this can happen...

UPDATE: Tried pushing the intake in in case it hadn't been pushed all the way. It had been. Got in touch with customer service and long story short they're sending me a new filter.

I'll try pushing the intake tube in again. I had taken the whole thing apart and cleaned it because I thought maybe there was a blockage somewhere. Pretty sure I put it back together properly but I'll give it a try.

Eco complete is a soil type substrate isn't it? I use flourite sand and my loaches are happy with it. Do some good research in to the type of Loach you want. I got a school of yoyos with the same idea as yours (actually it's part of the reason I switched to sand... So they could dig around in...

Also you have to be careful with guppy pairs because they can breed like crazy and the fry are numerous. I have a friend who ended up with over 100 guppies and had to get rid of some because they were interbreeding and had lots of birth defects as a result.

It didn't really happen over night, so to the speak. I suspect it started several days ago, however work has kept me very tied up for the last couple of weeks and I haven't been able to do anything more than water changes and feeding. I just noticed this yesterday, probably way too late :(
