A mud carp has very small scales where are my guy has large scales... like a prehistoric fish

I will take a pic of his face... its so funny.. He doesn't really look like a carp... maybe he is a cross breed with a mud carp?

I bought this fish at a little store called Koi in Edmonton (it is now closed down). I was told it was a Thai shark but I want to know what it actually is (I have been wondering for ten year...yep, he is that old :P). Can you please help me?? Thanks
