Well it's the best I can do. I just learned about DSM. It's the same thing as someone ordering a plant and putting it in their tank. I'm just growing it in a separate tank is all. If I have trouble transplanting it, I'll just turn my QT into another tank and buy another tank for QT.
I think I'm going to do the dry start method in my QT tank as long as I don't need it for any fish. Then I'll transplant it to my main aquarium. Thanks all!
Ill try the mesh and take pictures of before and after. Thanks for the advice! Just real quick, what kind of mesh should I use? Is there a special aquarium safe growing mesh? Or can I use anything as long as its not (insert condition here)?
I dosed to approx 2 tbsp per 5 gallon. Then slowly got rid of the salt with water changes.
The cories seemed to be fine with it. Their behavior did not change noticeably. Sorry for the delay in replying.
Okay so heres the deal. I bought a small 2 inch pot of baby tears a few months ago and my cory's have pretty much torn it all up except for a small patch about 1/2 inch in diameter.
I have T5 HO 110W 6500k and 10000k (1 bulb each) lighting. I bought dry ferts and they should be coming Tuesday...
You are correct. The parasite can be present in the tank after the ich is visibly gone. Some articles say continue treatment for 5 days, some 10 days, some 14 days. Most recommended temperatures say to go anywhere from 82 to 86 or higher. I do know that the lower your temp, the longer you should...
I have 5 cory's as well, they may not like it but they are doing just fine now. Maybe I just got lucky I guess but I'd rather stress the cory's a little bit and get rid of the ich than not treat it enough and lose everything. I see why you wouldn't want to use salt though.
I was wondering if anyone here has an aquaponics system or has had experience with one in the past. Particularly DIY aquaponics. I currently have a 55 gallon planted freshwater aquarium so aquaponics sounds like cake to me. The only problem I have is all the aquaponics systems ive seen are super...
Sorry to hear about your ich outbreak. Ich is definitely best caught treating as early as detected.
I recently had an ich outbreak. I treated it by cranking up my heater as far as it would go (86 degrees) and putting 20 tablespoons of salt in my 55 gallon aquarium (or 2 tablespoons per 5...

Dang, I wish i knew that. I bought a tank and then ended up having to do a swap because I couldnt find anyone that would refill in philly. I went to South Philly Propane.
Philly here. New to the hobby so I dont have much to offer. However I have a 55 gallon freshwater planted tank so if you have freshwater planted, we might be able to trade trimmings or some such things.
Plants are actually still growing. Well the baby tears are that is. So far no negative effects on the plants. Even if there are, i prefer the fish over plants lol.
So I'm not really here for advice so much as to share a little triumph with my sick fish. Currently have a freshwater planted 55g tank with 5 Bosemani Rainbows and 5 Cory cats and lots of snails. I found ich on the rainbows 4 days ago and started my treatment with salt and heat. I put 20...
