Just wanted some other eyes to look at this sand bed activity. Not sure if the holes are denitrification and the runs are worms? It is in an established reef tank of a customer of mine. Not feeling worried but want more opinions to be sure. Thank you!

I have a test kit both at home and in my classroom. My water from the tap, which is softened, is
0 ammonia
0 nitrite
0 nitrate
High KH
0 GH (which I add replenish in to fix)
pH 7.4 ( the tank is always about 8.3 without adjustments from me and I'm not sure why but not complaining)
Always...
It has been about 15% twice to three times a week because I was told by an old aquarist that large water changes are much more stressful on the fish. SO, what I have been doing is pre treating and pre dosing water, let it sit for a couple days, and then do a change and immediately get water...
Not to be off topic but you guys with 100 plus gallon tanks, do you still do 20 percent water changes frequently? Is there special equipment you use to do it? It seems like a major pain with a siphon hose and buckets.

Mogurako I'm sensing sarcasm is second nature to you. Perhaps you should consider satirical writing as a hobby along with keeping. You're a natural. Is it ok that my scrubby pad is a different color? :)

1 yellow lab
1 cobalt blue
1 red top
1 tiger lab
My filter is a fluval 70 over the back. I have always believed in over filtering tanks. I have been warned about aggression in a 30 but was told that 5-8 would work if started small and kept in a tank with...
pH seems relatively stable. It is alkaline from the tap.
I use Mars "Stress Coat" for my de chlorination with water changes
They have lots of cichlids stones to hide in which are fantastic if you are unfamiliar with them.
It is a 29 gallon tank. I know this is not the ideal size but I have...
The cichlids flakes are 90% of the time. Pellets the other 10% of the time. The seaweed was recommended to me as a treat and I have done that once.

The ones that died I've had less than 2 weeks. Maybe they were sick perhaps. I'll do some more water changes to lower nitrates more. Keep the ideas coming. Thanks guys.

Need help!
I have lost 2 cichlids recently and have no idea why. They are Mbunas.

Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0

Hardness KH and GH are high
Temp solid at 80

Thank you very much. I'm trying to convince the wife of some albino stuff. The genetics behind being albino makes it cool enough as it is. I'm going to look into the cobalts as well. Thanks again.

Thanks to the both of you. Being that I am "in it" already, anything anyone can give in the advise realm other than buy a bigger tank?
