The gems are there naturally. I was told by the person who gave it to me that it is quartz and that he has no issues with them in his own tank but my fiancé and I placed one rock in a bucket of water that tested with no ammonia and within 3 hours the ammonia was at a .5 level when retested.
I have seen those before and they are pretty for sure! I have recently become obsessed with Hillstream Loaches or Butterfly Plecos. Have you seen any of those? Their only downfall is they are hard to keep and they stay very small.
Honestly, because I was too afraid to attempt a salt water haha. I got my first tank all of my own in the 9th grade for Christmas. At that age I was far to scared to attempt a salt water and also couldn't afford it on a high schoolers McDonalds budget. I am now 26 and have been breading Fancy...
I received as a gift real lava rock with quartz gems in them. I LOVE this beautiful and rare gift but it is causing ammonia levels. Is there a way to coat these rocks so they are safe for my tank like clear marine Epoxy?
I cant remember the exact number off the top of my head but they said it wasn't that bad. It was the only thing off in the tank at all. I am doing a 20% water change now as suggested by the pet store.
My balas are still babies right now. I know how big they get and plan to upgrade my tank...
I have a 60 gal with three balas, a high fin pleco, and fancy guppies. I just had the water tested again and its great. My ph is 7. The fish store employee said he has never seen that in 8 years. There is no amonia. The only thing bad was my nitrites are a bit high. I have to do a water change.
My Fiance picked this fish out. It was the only one he picked for our new tank. We both loved him very much and named him Slick. I read up on him and read that they often die within the first 30 days but are very hardy after that. Slick lasted 2 weeks. I have no idea why! My levels were good. Im...
I agree about the stress so I do wait until they square off or stop eating to put them in and also add stress coat as well. I have had some do great with a breeder and some abort every time they get in so I really dont know if I like them or not. If I use them successfully I get tons of babies...
I have a 1.8 gal for the babies, a 5 for the teens and a 60 for adults. I currently have two moms in the 5 gal and two in a 3 way breeder. I also have this nifty new hatchery that hangs on the outside of the tank that I am just in love with haha because I think its so cool to see my babies...
Hello all,
I have had fresh water tanks for years and have been successful with them. I love breeding fancy guppies and watching my plecos and Balas grow to great sizes but I am now interested in moving on to trying my hand at salt water. What size tank would you recommend for a first timer and...
You can tell if they are pregnant if they have a black gravid spot. These are located at the lower back part of their belly. In blonde (yellow) guppies this can be orange in color. They black color is actually baby eyes. They are pregnant on average for about 21 days. They can actually give...
