No nitrites after cycling for seven weeks. Doing 30 to 50 percent water change every couple of days to keep ammonia down. Could my bio wheel be getting to dry during water change (takes about 20 to 30 minutes from start to finish)?

My 55 gallon tank is being cycled right now with 6 black skirt tetras. When cycle is complete I would like to add 6 zebra danios, 6 glofish danio, and then 10 tiger barbs. I have read that a lot of people have no problems with the tiger barbs if you have at least 7 of them. What do you think...
