I am closing in on the end of my fishless cycle (woo hoo) so I have begun to think about what I want to keep in my 29gal setup. I like tiger barbs and the redtail shark and from what I read they are compatible. I am worried about the size the RTS get but I know that would be down the road...
Fishless Cycle Update...
Ok, I think I am almost there. reading this morning are 82degree water, 0 ammonia, 5 (maybe less) of NitrIte, 160 NitrAte. I am adding the 1 teaspoon of ammonia per day. I believe I am just waiting for the Nitrite to drop to 0 then do 80% H2O change and I am...
Water temp is 82 degrees constant. I started with 4ppm ammonia (a little under was ok from what I read) so I have not moved lower at all (although it looks a bit lighter shade of green!!). I also have a bubbler pumping air through an airstone that is 8" long creating a nice bubble backdrop...
I am using the fishless cycle for dummies method found here on the boards. I am about to enter the 3rd week and so far I am still reading 4ppm on ammonia and 0ppm on nitrite. Is this normal and I just need to keep waiting it out? I have a 29 gallon with fake plants.
Thanks
Brian

1) When I filled the tank for the 1st time should I have added any solution because it was tap water?
2) When water evaporates out of the tank do I just add tap water in or...
Thanks for all the advice. I went with fake plants for now until my feet are on the ground with this fish stuff! My tank is all setup and I have begun cycling today. I have 2 nice pieces of driftwood soaking for later on. I will post pictures when the driftwood is in.
I love this forum
I just started fishless cycling today and am following the thread on the boards "fishless cycling for dummies." They mention we are looking for .5ppm but I am not sure that can be true. I am using the API freshwater master test kit, I added 3 teaspoons of ammonia like stated...
I am looking to start up a 29 gallon freshwater tank. I am going with the fishless cycling method which will also discipline me in "taking care" of my tank while it cycles. My question is, being new I am not sure I want to get into live plants as well. It seems as though most members use live...
