Glad to see somebody else had a similar problem after going topless. I'm interested in your adaptation to reduce splashing. Can you take a closer image or explain what you put there on the output. Looks like plastic of some kind. I've tried putting a bit of polyfil material that worked well but...
Ray 2 for the 29g and Fugeray for the 20g long. The T5HO is a bit better than the LEDs since the light frame is wider and provides better coverage but I preferred the slimmer profile of the LEDs.
Just wanted to add that both lights work great. I am only selling them since we replaced the lights on our 20g long and 29g tanks with finnex LEDs and therefore we do not need four 30inch lights!
I'd also like to add I have a huge bag (25 or 50lb I will check later tonight) of black diamond...
I'm selling two 30inch lights.
Light #1:
Aqueon stock light (20watts) that comes with a plastic cover and natural daylight bulb. This has less than 20hrs on it total. The plastic cover has the back cut out for filters and a splash guard to protect the light. Send me an offer.
Light #2...
Thanks rivercats. We've been using the dry ferts and the plants are looking great (esp the bulb in pic 1). Are nerite snails one of the prolific growers? I'd prefer to stay away from snails that will overtake the tank....
Thanks for the heads up. I was reading last night that otos can be used to help clean them up. Anybody have any success with them? The brown stuff is just so ugly I'd prefer to get rid of it sooner rather than later.
Hi Everybody,
I'm in need of some help again. My big tank (29g) has this brown gunk growing on the decorations and plants. You can see it in the photos.
Image 1 --> Some of the blades of grass have it and the decoration has two colors. The darker brown stuff is the algae (or something like...
Ahh I see. Looks like you have SOME nitrates which is good and I'm sure your tank is probably cycled if its been up for 5 months. Funny that test kit does nitrite and nitrate but not ammonia. Only thing is when you get your ram I'd just acclimate him/her very slowly due to the higher pH. If...
I'm sure somebody who has been around these tanks for longer will chime in but my understanding is that pH does not matter so long as it is stable. The fish can adjust to a low or high pH but cannot tolerate large swings in pH so you should be OK from that point of view. I'd definitely test...
Also you're going to hear this a lot on these boards but people do not recommend the test strips but instead try to use the API droplet kits. They're <$20 shipped on amazon and will cost you almost double that if you buy it in the local fish store (at least here in nyc). One box will last you...
Very nice tank layout. I like the sand with the rocks.
I agree the pH is a bit high but might be OK if it's the same out of the tap and the ram has time and readjusts to it. Also you should definitely add some more cory (should have a school of at least 5 and you can mix and match them as you...
Hi Rivercats,
Just wanted to follow up. I tested my tank tonight and the nitrates came in around 10ppm and phosphates 1ppm. I couldn't exactly figure out how much phosphate is OK but I read somewhere that 10:1 nitrate: phosphate is OK and that seems to be where I'm at? Just wondering what you...
