    For Sale or trade: Plants

I need to thin my greenery. $1 a plant + $5 for a small flat rate box. Plants may have algae, duckweed, snails, or other critters. Treat accordingly. Cardamine Lyrata - Medium to high-light plant. Grows really tall with circular leaves. I've got about 15 stems. $1 for 3 stems. Crypt Lutea...

    plant advice

Putting the tank in front of a window is just begging for an algae bloom. I wouldn't try it. A 4ft T8 shop light is pretty good bang for your buck. The Marineland Double Bright fixture would work for plants.

    Playground sand?

Sure. I have play sand in one of my tanks. Just be sure to wash it really well. It's very dusty out of the bag.

    help with ammonia - confused

First, make sure you're holding the tube on the white space of the card and look at it under good light. Bad lighting can really screw up your reading. Second, there are ways to calibrate your test kits. It's not very complicated, but you need exact measurements. Dig around online and you'll...

    Algae Issue.

I've noticed that I get less algae on my glass top since I reduced the amount of micro ferts I add. It stopped the weekly green water outbreak too.

    Jungle val in low wpg?

+1 They spread like mad, but they don't grow very tall very quickly. I've got some in a 29g with a couple CFLs and they're just reaching to the top now after probably a year in the tank.

    Tempered glass or not

Tempered glass is stronger than untempered glass, but you can't drill it. The only tempered glass I've seen in an aquarium is the bottom pane, and not every aquarium has this. I'd go with the untempered glass.

    Moving an Aquarium

I've moved several tanks by draining most of the water and leaving everything else. Be sure to have some muscle available. I can handle moving a 20H by myself in this manner, but that's about my limit.

    Shrimp w/ Angelfish?

Angels will most likely eat any shrimp you put in the tank. Mollies may do the same.

    Info about using a Python

+1 for meegosh. I used to check the tap temp with an instant-read meat themometer, but now I just go by touch.

    Sand blasting sand

I've got Black Blast coal slag blasting compound in my 40B and a 5g. $8 for 50lb was too good to pass up.

    research project?

I'll put the fact that the tank is too small for the fish aside for the moment. I think the tank will be too small for you to get any kind of good result for your experiment. Let's say you've got a 14" bass in a 40B. At most the bait will be two feet away from the fish. Bump the tank up to a...
