I'm interested in a Peacock Eel at my local fish store for my 50 gallon tank. the only thing covering the tank, however, is eggcrate. Do you think a 5 inch Peacock eel will be able to escape through eggcrate?

I'm setting up a 55 gallon "river tank" with rocks and driftwood, but no plants. Is there a good midwater fish I can use that doesn't really need plants to be happy? I was thinking of getting 4 or 5 rainbows but wasn't sure if they would feel safe without any plants in the tank.
My Tiger Barbs do it all the time. At first I thought they were just getting used to the tank, but its been three weeks now and they still do it. I have cherry barbs in there but they don't swim up and down the front of the tank.

what if you have a filter insert for a hang-on-back filter with carbon inside of a filter floss holder. If you've run the tank for about 2 months without changing the filter, would it be better to just leave the carbon in there for bacteria to grow on? Does carbon make a good biofilter medium?
I may keep it in for now. My cherry barbs seem to love it, they chase each other through the dense leaves, wriggling all around them. They are really getting a kick out of it.
Thanks. There seems to be some false information about these plants out there. This settles it for me, the plant is not meant for aquariums and will be coming out of mine.
