i'm really liking the tetratec filter with the built in heater module :) I'm running one in a 10g thats now a growout tank. its loud though, but has a surge/syphon thing on it that constantly fills and empties a sponge for bio :) its big for a HOTB :(

is this product dimiliar to the absorbing pads from seachem or kent? Those resins can be 'recharged' with a heating in the oven and you can't leave them in your tank too long or they actually start leaching the phosphates back into the water!

not to steal the sales away from shops, but here's an example. You buy 50 lbs of rock for your aquairum. LFS wants $2.99 a pound for small pieces of rock = $149.50. Landscaping centers (moreso than home depot or home repair centers) wants .28 per pound for anysize pieces of rock = $14.00...

This is as complicated as you want it to be, actually. Most of the commercial filters that you can buy from retailers are designed to work with minimal setup and hassles. Most that you buy do not require drilling tanks. The magnum HOT style cannister filter hangs onto the back of the tank and...

you've got a point, bernie and I should have made it also in my post. I did NOT follow the directions with bio-spira. I added too much for the capacity of water I have. I added to a tank with ammonia. but, at least I didn't add it to a tank with anti-ammonia stuff it in as well :mrgreen:
