    I used to gamble with buying fish and putting them directly into the tank and I never really had a problem. Now that my reef is established, I quarantine all new purchases for a couple of week first. Medicating with liverock and inverts is a bad thing.

    Liverock questions

    You didn't mention the type of filtration you use, skimmer, canister wet-dry etc. Do the bubbles apear along with algae or are they just bubbles. If it's algae it could be cyanobacteria(slime algae) or dinoflagellates. Regardless of which, they usually point to a problem with excess nutrients...

    It all depends on how cured your liverock is. I have moved rock from an established tank into a smaller setup and never really saw the ammonia spike. Do you test for nitrites?

    I used to turn off circulation, until I forgot a couple of times to turn back on. With all of the scavengers in my system, nothing goes uneaten.

    I had the same problem with my overflows. I have seen some of the products online called “Feeding Rings” that attach to the inside of the tank to keep the food from floating away. I intended to order one but never got around to it. I too was using the cup of water method to soak the food down...
